KATHMANDU: APRIL. 14 – Today is Baisakh 1st, 2079 BS, the first day of the new year. It is celebrated throughout Nepal by exchanging good wishes with one another. Today is also the day when the Sun ends its Pisces indulgence and begins its Aries indulgence.

Former Chairperson of the Nepal Panchang Judging Committee Prof. Dr. Madhav Bhattarai says that Vikram Samvat is eternal as it moves with the speed of the sun. “Since Vikram is one of the 60 Samvatsaras and Aditya is related to the Sun, it is called Vikramaditya Samvat. Vikram Samvat runs according to the speed and position of the Sun. Scientists say that when the Sun enters Aries and leaves Pisces, the old year of Samvat ends and the new year begins.

Vikram Samvat has started three thousand 44 years after the beginning of Kali Yuga. Every person today evaluates the success/failure of the work done in the last year and makes a plan and determination not to repeat the failure and to achieve success.

According to Chandraman, the new Samvatsaras, which will start on the day of Chaitra (April/May) Shukla Pratipada, has already started on April 2. According to Prof. Shrikrishna Adhikari, Chairperson of the Nepal Panchanga Nirnayak Samitee, the Samvatsar named Nal has started on April 2.

According to the Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion, there are 60 Samvatsaras. These Samvatsaras have been circulating since time immemorial. Prabhav is the name of the first of the sixties. The current tap is the 50th anniversary. According to Vedraj Panta, author of the book ‘Shashti Samvatsar’, which has different fruits every year.
