KATHMANDU: APRIL. 12 – Ambassador of Austria to Nepal, Katharina Wieser, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday.

During the meeting, they discussed further consolidating the mutual relations existing between the two countries and exploring possibilities of a direct Kathmandu-Vienna flight, according to Minister Khand’s Secretariat.

The Minister viewed that both countries would benefit from the direct flight from Kathmandu to Vienna, the Austrian capital.

Reciprocating to Minister Khand, newly appointed Austrian envoy Wieser pledged to take initiative with the Government of Austria on the matter relating to direct flights.

Nepal and Austria established diplomatic relations on August 15, 1959.

The Austrian government has been extending its assistance to Nepal in heritage conservation. Austria has been supported in the restoration of the Patan Museum, the conservation of Keshar Mahal (popularly known as the Garden of Dreams) and the promotion of Namche hydropower and ecological tourism in Rolwaling Valley in the Dolakha district.
