Bar elections: Ruling Coalition’s ‘clean sweep’
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 8 – In the election of the Nepal Bar Association’s 26th Central Working Committee, a panel of legal practitioners close to the ruling coalition carried out “clean sweep.”
Gopal Krishna Ghimire has been elected as the chairperson on behalf of the coalition-backed legal practitioners. He had received 4,474. He defeated his nearest rival Bishnu Mani Adhikari, a lawyer close to UML. Only 2,989 votes were cast in favor of Adhikari.
Similarly, Anjita Khanal, a candidate of the coalition-backed legal practitioners, has been elected as the general secretary. A total of 3,682 votes have been cast in his favor. She defeated Kedar Koirala by 1,337 votes. Koirala got only 2,345 votes.
Lawyer Suraj Khatri, Sudhir Karna, Harka Rawal, Birendra KC, Pashupati Bhandari, Uttam Acharya, Tularam Giri and Aasha Rai have been elected as vice-chairpersons. Similarly, Bharat Rawat has won the post of treasurer.
Among the members [inclusive] are Binita Nepali, Kiran Shah, Naresh Sah, Narayan Rai, Roop Saru, Sita Poudel, Manika Khadka and Sarmila Thapa. Similarly, Bharat Lakai, Devi Koirala, Nirbhaya Poudel, Santosh Raut, Gunaraj Acharya and Santosh Tiwari emerged victorious in the open category.
The bar has a 25-member working committee, that includes the chairperson and 11 office bearers and members. There were 9,708 advocates who voted in favor of this.
