Typhoid vaccination campaign begun [Photos]

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 8 – From today until May 1, the government has started a typhoid vaccination campaign for children aged 15 months to 15 years.

For the first time under the National Immunization Program, children are being vaccinated against typhoid with grant aid.

The typhoid vaccination campaign has been launched with the assistance of UNICEF, the GAVI Vaccine Network, the World Health Organization, and other partner countries and organizations.

Nepal is the fourth country to receive GAVI assistance for typhoid vaccine. Earlier, Pakistan, Liberia and Zimbabwe had received support from GAVI and its partners.

The government aims to vaccinate at least 95 percent of the 7.5 million children against typhoid. For this, arrangements have been made to vaccinate the children by going to schools through all 753 local levels. In case of out-of-school age children, vaccination program will be conducted in the local health facility.
