7.4 million children vaccinated against typhoid

KATHMANDU: APRIL. 8 – As many as 7.5 million children between the ages of 15 months and 15 years are being vaccinated against typhoid today.

According to Sagar Dahal, head of the Department of Health Services, Child Health and Vaccination Branch, GAVI (Global Vaccine Network) has provided free typhoid vaccine to Nepal.

Under the vaccination campaign, 56 thousand 4298 vaccination centers and schools across the country will be vaccinated. For this, 10,000 health workers and 112,858 volunteers have been mobilized.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba inaugurated the vaccination campaign at Durbar High School. Although vaccination has been underway in some areas for a few days, the campaign officially began today.

This vaccine is being administered for the first time in Nepal. The government has ordered that everyone visit their nearest vaccination center and get vaccinated. More than 450,000 people have been infected with typhoid in Nepal in the last five years, according to the Department of Health.

The campaign will run till May 1.
