BIRATNAGAR: APRIL. 6 – The Biratnagar-Bathnaha railway line, which was begun to facilitate trade between Nepal and India, has yet to be completed. While the construction work up to Budhanagar of Biratnagar-17 is nearing completion, there is a compensation issue in the Katahari area.
The railway line connecting Bathnaha, India, to Katahari via Biratnagar is in disrepair. Although the Bathanaha-Budhanagar railway has been tested, the construction work from Budhanagar to the station area, about 13 kilometers north, remains unfinished.
A leak test has been completed for the operation of the railway line up to Ward No. 18 of Biratnagar Metropolitan City. According to the railway project, the construction of 18.6 km long railway line from Bathnaha in India to Katahari Rural MuinicipalityWard No. 1 has been started for eight years. There is a 5 km railway line from Bathnaha to the Nepal border and 13.6 km towards Nepal.
According to the railway construction company Ircon, the Biratnagar-Bathnaha railway line, which was started eight years ago to bring the freight train to Nepal, is now ready to run the train to Budhanagar immediately. Even after eight years of hoping that the train would arrive in Nepal from India with much-needed supplies, locals have yet to see it.
According to the agreement reached between the Governments of Nepal and India, the Government of Nepal will provide the land, and the Government of India will build and hand over the railway to the Government of Nepal.
It is claimed that only half of the work in the area towards North Nepal has been completed, despite the fact that a smooth train can reach the ICP built in Budhanagar in 8 years for the construction of 18.6 km railway.
A track is being built eight kilometers from Budhanagar’s Lawaghat to Katahari. India had agreed to invest Rs 2.80 billion in the Bathanaha-Katahari section of the railway with the government.
