Parties chanted slogans during the Election Commission meeting
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 5 – The parties have chanted slogans at the meeting convened by the Election Commission.
The parties have begun chanting slogans claiming that they were coerced into signing a letter of commitment to implement the election code of conduct.
The commission convened 79 parties on Tuesday to discuss the code of conduct. The commission had requested that the parties sign the commitment letter without first discussing the code of conduct.
When asked to sign without discussion, leaders and representatives of non-national parties protested. Smaller parties have even chanted anti-commission slogans, claiming that the commission was run on the orders of the ruling coalition and major parties.
During the meeting, Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya urged everyone not to argue.
