Government raises public transportation fares once more
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 3 – Long-distance public transportation fares have been raised by 10% by the government. The Department of Transportation Management has increased passenger vehicle fares by 10% while maintaining automatic fares.
According to the department, cargo vehicle fares have been raised by 13% in the hills and 15% in the Terai. By making a ministerial decision on Thursday, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport decided to keep the automatic fares rate.
Deputy Secretary Lok Nath Bhusal, who also serves as the department’s spokesperson, stated that the decision to raise long-distance vehicle fares was made in view of increasing petroleum prices.
With the reduction in the minimum price of petroleum products by 5 percent, the vehicle fares will be adjusted according to the automatic fares rate.
