LONDON: APRIL. 3 – Former Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has been attacked in London. Ahmed Noorani, a journalist, tweeted that Nawaz Sharif was attacked on Saturday by activists of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party.

Nawaz’s bodyguard was injured in the attack. The no-confidence motion against Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is due to be tabled in Parliament on Sunday. If Imran fails in the no-confidence motion, Nawaz’s brother Shahbaz Sharif will be the next prime minister.

Nawaz Sharif’s daughter, Maryam, has demanded that PTI activists be jailed for inciting violence. Maryam also said that Imran Khan should be prosecuted for provocations, incitement and treason and that no one should be left alone.

Vote today on the no-confidence motion

The Imran Khan government needs the support of 172 members to survive the no-confidence motion in the 342-member National Assembly. The PTI has 155 members. There are opponents of Imran in the PTI itself. The rumour is strong that some of them will deviate. Imran’s position deteriorated as the seven-member Muttahida Qaumi Movement – Pakistan (MQMP), the four-member Balochistan Awami Party and the one–member PML-Q withdrew support for the government.

The opposition claims to have the support of 175 members in the National Assembly. Meanwhile, Imran called on the people to take to the streets and protest peacefully during the no-confidence motion vote. He reiterated that the opposition was conspiring with foreign powers to oust him.

Imran urged all of you to protest for an independent Pakistan. Earlier, Imran had accused the opposition of conspiring with the United States to oust him. Not a single Prime Minister in Pakistan has completed his term. Imran Khan is the third Prime Minister to face a no-confidence motion.
