KATHMANDU: APRIL. 1 – The Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) has urged all political parties to pick election candidates based on ethnic majority and help make indigenous nationalities victorious in the May 13 local election.

The NEFIN President Geljen Lama Sherpa on behalf of the Federation pledged to accord high priority to implementing proportional and inclusive representation in all state organs as per the spirit of the constitution.

He was speaking at a press conference organised by the NEFIN newly elected leadership through its recently organised 10th national convention.

“The Federation has been continuously fighting to end discriminations including ones based on politics, language, social and cultural. It will continue to combat to amend the constitution which is required to build high-powered autonomous, protected and special areas by establishing the federalism along with identity.”

Similarly, referring to the budget allocated by local, provincial and federal governments for indigenous nationalities reportedly spent elsewhere, the Federation Secretary-General Buddha Gharti said that pressure would be created on utilising the budget rightly.

Special initiatives would be taken for the inclusive representatives in state organs so as to protect and promote minorities, threatened and marginalised indigenous nationalities, he said.

Newly elected President of the Federation of Nepalese Indigenous Journalists (FoNIJ) Gajurdhan Rai stressed the need for collaboration and coordination between the NEFIN and FoNIJ on their agendas to yield better results.
