LOS ANGELES: APRIL. 1 – Four people were injured in a series of explosions Thursday at a metal recycling facility in Southern California, U.S. media reported, citing local officials.

The incident was reported at about 9:15 a.m. local time in the City of Montclair, about 53 km east of Los Angeles.

Emergency responders set up a perimeter in the area as firefighters used firehoses to douse piles of pressurized metal canisters on the ground at the facility, according to KABC-TV, the West Coast flagship station of the ABC television network.

“Everything was just exploding like a freaking war over here,” witness Albert Castro was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

Two of the victims were transported to a hospital by ambulance, while the two others went to a medical centre in civilian vehicles, reported KABC-TV, adding that their conditions and details of their injuries were not immediately known.

Some nearby schools were reportedly placed on precautionary lockdowns.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
