Government raises public transport fares
KATHMANDU: APRIL. 1 – The government has raised the fares of public transportation. The government has increased fares on public transport after pressure from transport businessmen on rising fuel prices.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport has decided to raise the fare for state-run public transportation from 11 to 13 percent at the current rate. The ministry has only raised fares for passenger and freight vehicles travelling from one state to another.
According to Namaraj Ghimire, Director General of the Department of Transport Management, the list of increased fares according to the route will be made public on Sunday. “On Sunday, the list of increased fares according to the route will be made public. Once the list is made public, it will be implemented,” he said.
Since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war, oil prices have been steadily rising. Previously, the Department of Transport Management had recommended to the Ministry that the fare for public transportation be increased in accordance with the automated system. The ministerial decision has approved the recommendation.
