KABUL: MARCH. 28 – Afghan police have apprehended 37 persons on the charge of drug smuggling in the northern Balkh province, the state-run news agency Bakhtar reported Monday.

Quoting a senior police officer Qari Ramadan Zakiri, the news agency said the arrested men were involved in smuggling and selling illicit drug in parts of Balkh province.

All the arrested men have been handed over to related courts for investigation, the news agency further said.

Although farmers in some provinces have cultivated poppy, officials with the Taliban-run administration say that the authorities would strictly check drug production and its smuggling in the war-torn country.
