Bus mishap claims 7 lives in south India

NEW DELHI: MARCH. 27 – A local police source confirmed on Sunday that seven people were killed and more than 40 others were injured when the bus they were riding in fell off a cliff in south India.
The accident took place in the southern state Andhra Pradesh, where the bus fell off a cliff into a ravine in Chittoor district, the source told Xinhua over the phone.
State Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that each family of the deceased would receive 200,000 Indian rupees (2,621 US dollars) in compensation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ex-gratia payments of 200,000 rupees to the deceased’s next of kin, and 50,000 rupees (655 US dollars) to those injured in the accident, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
“Pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Chittoor, AP. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope the injured recover soon,” tweeted Modi.
