Electricity to be purchased from India & given to industry at Rs. 38 per unit from tonight
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 24 – Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) will purchase electricity from India at Rs 20 per unit and make it available to Nepal’s industrial consumers at Rs 38 per unit.
According to NEA Executive Director Kulman Ghising, the price of electricity in India has skyrocketed as the price of coal in the international market has increased, and India has been selling coal-generated electricity to Nepal.
He predicted that the price of electricity purchased on India’s daily exchange market would be up to Rs 38 per unit. He stated that due to the rise in coal prices, India was unable to supply electricity to Nepal and that some industrial areas in Nepal had to be shut down.
He stated that there will be no load shedding anywhere because electricity will be supplied from India, even in industries that have been shut down since 12:15 p.m. tonight.
He stated that they must now purchase 300 to 400 megawatts of electricity.
