Legal way open, train to be inaugurated within two weeks
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 23 – Railway Ordinance, 2078 BS was issued by President Bidya Devi Bhandari. President Bhandari issued the ordinance on Tuesday on the recommendation of the Government of Nepal and the Council of Ministers, in accordance with Article 114 (1) of the Constitution of Nepal.
Niranjan Jha, General Manager of Nepal Railway Company, stated that the legal path for the train’s operation has been opened. “There will no longer be a legal issue with railway operations,” he said. “The railway will be officially inaugurated and operational in no more than two weeks.”
Since February 13, the ‘dry run’ has been operating without passengers. The ordinance, which had previously been issued twice, had expired. The operation will be trouble-free now that all preparations have been completed, according to Nepal Railway Company.
According to General Manager Jha, the Prime Ministers of India and Nepal are preparing to jointly inaugurate and commercialize the railway service.
Once a day, the train will travel 34.9 kilometres from Jayanagar to Kurtha via Janakpur. Passengers travelling from Kurtha to Jayanagar must pay Rs 70 for regular seating and Rs 300 for AC seating.
