Letang incident: 13 arrested for violating curfew

BIRATNAGAR: MARCH. 21 – Police have arrested six people on suspicion of being involved in the incident in which a female police officer was killed in Letang of Morang district.

A female police officer was killed in a local attack on a teacher at the Sikshya Higher Secondary in Morang’s Letang Municipality Ward No. 5 over the issue of sexual abuse of a student. Police constable Urmila Shrestha was stabbed to death by a local.

A brawl broke out between the police and the locals following an incident in which a teacher from the same school sexually abused a 13-year-old girl in Class 7. A curfew has been imposed in the area. The curfew has been in imposed since 7 am.

According to Janardan GC, Superintendent of Police, Morang District Police Office, some youths were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the incident. Similarly, 13 people were arrested for attempting to violate the curfew, and an investigation is underway, according to Superintendent of Police GC.

The Morang administration has imposed a curfew in Letang Municipality Ward No. 5 since this morning in order to control the situation.

The curfew has been imposed on all areas of Ward No. 5, Gangepur and Kamalpur areas of Ward Nos. 3 and 4, Ward Office Area of ​​Ward No. 6, Morange Khola in the east and Chisang Khola in the west.
