Curfew imposed in Morang’s Letang
BIRATNAGAR: MARCH. 21 – A female police officer was killed in a clash over sexual harassment of a Sikshya Higher Secondary teacher student by a teacher from the same school in Letang Municipality, Ward No. 5 of Morang.
According to the Morang administration, 29 police officers, including the Morang police chief, were injured.
In the evening, the school was set on fire in protest of a teacher sexually abusing a 13-year-old student in studying in Class 7. Morang Chief District Officer Kashiraj Dahal stated that the teachers, students, and parents set fire to the principal’s office in protest of the teacher’s arrest.
The Morang administration has imposed curfew since morning to control the situation in Letang Municipality Ward No. 5, which has been tense till midnight.
A curfew has been imposed on all areas of Ward No. 5, Gangepur and Kamalpur areas of Ward Nos. 3 and 4, Ward Office Area of Ward No. 6, Morange Khola in the east and Chisang Khola in the west.
According to Chief District Officer Dahal, a group of 700 locals attacked the police. The police were attacked with stones and homemade weapons, according to the security forces. According to Dahal, 29 police officers and four civilians were injured in the incident.
Morang SP Janardan GC has also been injured. His chest and arm were injured, but he is otherwise fine. Last night, a local stabbed to death a female police officer. Urmila Shrestha, a member of the state police battalion, was killed. Shrestha’s body is being kept at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar, according to SP Nabin Rai, spokesperson for the State Police Office.
