KATHMANDU: MARCH. 14 – Nepal Writers Association calls for respect for freedom of expression. The association issued such a call, citing the controversy surrounding Prakash Saput’s song.
In a press release issued today, the association congratulated Saput and the entire production team for portraying the true face of contemporary Nepali society in ‘Pir.’ “Every work of the creators is valuable as the Nepal Writers’ Association is the original and common body of creators who support pro-freedom of expression, opinion and writing,” said a statement signed by the association’s coordinator Dr Ratnamani Nepal and member-secretary Nabin Chandra Ghimire. The association has condemned the attempt to ban the song and has advocated for non-prohibition. Based on the song’s creation and the story and reality in the song, singer and artist Prakash Saput said in a statement, “We strongly condemn such attempts to ban artists and their affiliates, and urge them not to engage in any such prohibitions in the coming days.”
