79 parties be able to participate in local elections

KATHMANDU: MARCH. 11 – For local elections, the Election Commission has recognized 79 parties. A commission meeting on Thursday authorized all parties to participate in the election, with the exception of Rishi Kattel’s CPN (Maoist).

The commission had requested that the party be registered from Feb 17-27. According to Shaligram Sharma Poudel, a spokesperson for the Commission, the registration was rejected due to a lack of the necessary process for the registration of the party led by Rishi Kattel.

Now, 79 parties will be able to participate in the election to be held on May 13.
