MCC needed for Nepal’s development: PM Deuba
PARSA: MARCH. 10 – Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact which was recently ratified by the House would prove its significance in terms of the development of Nepal.
As he explained, the MCC is a grant from the US Government and the country would see a good pace of development ahead if it was fully utilised.
In his address to a programme organised by the Nepali Congress (NC), Parsa in Birgunj today, he expressed his hope that the proper utilisation of the aid would provide a ground for other prosperous nations in the world too for investing and helping us fight unemployment, poverty and economic backwardness.
The programme was organised to mark the certificate handover ceremony to office-bearers and members of the party’s new district working committee.
According to the Prime Minister, Nepal remaining between the two giant nations: China and India, has the policy of seeking the support of both neighbours for its development endeavours and establishing balanced and friendly relations with them and it is the need too.
As the country is preparing for fresh local level elections scheduled for the upcoming May 13, the Prime Minister, also NC President, said it would participate in the elections by coordinating with other political parties in the coalition government.
“We see a high possibility of a victory in the entire three-level elections if the existing alliance takes part in the election collectively and discussions to this regard are going on.”
In the previous elections, the party faced a defeat, not because of its weak presence but the electoral alliance among the Communist parties, he added.
On the occasion, he welcomed newcomers to the party who quit other parties to join the NC. Those who defected into the NC include Pokhariya municipality mayor Deepnaryan Prasad Rauniyar (Mantu) and others.
NC Parsa newly elected leader Janardhan Singh Chhetri presided over the programme where party central members Ramesh Rijal, Ajay Chaurasiya, CA former member Anil Rungata and former lawmaker Surendra Chaudhary claimed that the party would secure a majority win in the upcoming three-tier election.
