Border with China has not been opened yet
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 9 – Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani, two important trade routes connecting Nepal and China, have been closed unilaterally. Since February 2020, one-way trade has been allowed at the Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani checkpoints. In other words, only Chinese goods have entered Nepal. Goods from Nepal has not been sent.
Nepal has repeatedly requested that the border be opened, but China has shown no interest. Under the guise of combating the COVID-19 epidemic, China has prohibited the entry of Nepali goods through these checkpoints.
The statement made by Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka on Monday shows how helpless Nepal has become in terms of opening two major trade ports. “We have taken numerous steps to open the border with China.”
We also made a request to China’s Foreign Minister. “The border is closed due to COVID-19,” Foreign Minister Khadka explained. Our exports have almost come to a halt. As the corona decreases, this will be the solution.
