Student council suggests naming State 1 ‘Sagarmatha’
BIRATNAGAR: MARCH. 7 – The Academic Student Council has demanded that the name of State 1 be named to Everest. Following a meeting with State 1 Chief Minister Rajendra Kumar Rai, the Council of State 1 Committee proposed naming State 1.
A delegation led by Chintamani Basnet, the state chairperson of the council, presented Chief Minister Rai with a letter of recommendation and urged him to name the state Everest after the sentiments of all.
‘Each name plays an important role’, the suggestion letter says that Nepal may feel unfavourable to name a particular caste, language, culture due to its multilingualism, multiculturalism, polygamy, traditions, cuisine, different geographies as well as its own festivals and styles. Therefore, it is appropriate to have a name that everyone can be proud of and feel belonging to.’
According to Chairperson Basnet, the council has requested that State 1 be named ‘Sagarmatha’ because there is no better alternative as the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, which is the pride of all and embraces the sentiments of all communities, falls in this state.
