Prachanda to brief on MCC, such are the other agendas
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 4 – The Central Committee meeting of the ruling coalition partner party Maoist has begun. The meeting began two hours late, at 1 p.m., in Kathmandu’s National Assembly Hall. Leaders have stated that the central office-bearers will be decided at a meeting two months after the conclusion of the 8th National General Convention.
Matrika Prasad Yadav, a central member, stated, “The purpose of today’s meeting is to finalize various committees, including the central office-bearers. Let’s see what happens now.” ‘Also discussed are other issues.’
Previously, the 8th National General Convention, held from December 26 to January 2, at the Nepal Pragya Pratisthan, had endorsed Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ as chairperson. Despite the fact that the Central Committee has been meeting since then, the office bearers have been unable to reach a decision.
The meeting, which began today, will, however, decide on the central office-bearers, according to the leaders. According to the leaders, discussions on this issue will begin on the second day and, if possible, will end on the same day.
Today’s agenda includes a discussion of current political issues. Following the meeting’s tributes, party chairperson Prachanda will report on MCC.
“In the reporting, he will be briefed on the specific questions and queries raised by other comrades.” “After this,” a central member said, “other agendas will be brought up and discussed.”
Following that, organizational issues were prioritized as the second item on the agenda. According to the members, an agenda has been set to discuss the addition of members to the Central Committee, Politburo, permanent and official alliance. The meeting’s agenda includes division of labor, preparation for local elections, and a variety of other topics.
The leaders will discuss the issue of MCC, which was passed by Nepal’s Parliament on February 27th, at today’s meeting. Maoist leaders are fighting over the MCC, which has already been passed by parliament. Especially the Narayan Kaji Shrestha faction is expressing intense dissatisfaction. Central member Anjana Bishankhe said that the party would raise the issue vigorously. “We are not going to skip it,” she said.
The general convention held in Poush (Dec/Jan) concluded that the party would oppose the MCC in any case. The Maoist center, on the other hand, stated on February 26 that the MCC should be approved by the parliament.
Since then, the political distance between Prachanda and Narayan Kaji has grown wider. In the meantime, Prachanda has met Narayan Kaji twice.
Dev Prasad Gurung, a Central Committee member, stated that the Central Committee meeting would also resolve internal disputes. “This meeting of the Central Committee does not only form empty office bearers and committees,” he explained. This is the decisive meeting. So it engages in ideological debates, motivates leaders/activists to do so, and helps resolve any disputes. “
