Local elections: Call for protest in the voter list
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 4 – The Election Commission is preparing for the May 13 local elections. As a result, protests have begun in the voter list as of today.
Shaligram Sharma Poudel, the commission’s spokesperson, stated that the commission has set a seven-day deadline for protesting claims under the enrollment update program.
According to Poudel, applications for rectification of errors in the voter list, filing a complaint against the inclusion of one’s name in the voter list by providing false details, and applying to maintain only one place if the name of any voter is included in more than one place will be available until March 10.
Poudel stated that the names of voters who died or renounced their citizenship during this time period will be removed from the voters’ list, and voters who have filed complaints will be given the opportunity to clear their names with evidence.
Petitions for protest can be filed in all 77 district election offices, and the commission will investigate and publish the final list of voters on the same basis. The commission will investigate the complaint received by March 10 and issue a notice to concerned voters to appear in with evidence.
