KATHMANDU: MARCH. 4 – The government has extended the holiday by nine days for next year. The cabinet meeting on Monday extended Dashain-Tihar leave by nine days, based on a proposal from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

It has been decided to grant leave until the day after tomorrow (Dwadashi) of Dashain’s Vijayadashami next year. Previously, leave was granted until the next day of tika (Ekadashi). Similarly, there will be leave the next day of Bhaitika. On that day, the Newar community worships Kija as Bhaitika.

It has been decided to give leave on Christmas, Dhannepurne (Baisakh Purnima) and Mohammad Jayanti next year. It has been decided to give leave to Tamu and Sonam Lhosar and two other festivals of the Muslim community. This year, too, leave has been granted for these festivals based on a decision by the Council of Ministers. It has been decided to include it in the leave notice for next year.
