Nepal voted against Russia in UN General Assembly
KATHMANDU: MARCH. 3 – Nepal voted against Russia in the United Nations General Assembly. 141 countries, including Nepal, have sided with Ukraine, which Russia has invaded.
On Wednesday night, 141 countries, including Nepal, voted in favor of the resolution in the General Assembly. Thirty-four countries including India and China have remained neutral while five countries voted against.
Russia and Ukraine have stated their opposition to the use of force or the imposition of sanctions on Ukraine. The United Nations has 193 member nations.
Nepal had previously voted in favor of Ukraine in the UN Human Rights Council. The Council has 47 member countries. In the UN Security Council, India and China also remained neutral.
Nepal, on the other hand, is not a member of the Security Council. The Security Council has 15 member nations. The United Nations’ 193 member states had previously expressed their concerns about the attack on Ukraine.
Earlier, Russia voted against the plan, but the decision to convene a meeting could not be stopped. A special meeting was held with the idea of peace. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement last year protesting Russia’s intervention in Ukraine.
