KATHMANDU: FEB. 26 – Maha Shivaratri festivities have started at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. The activities of saints and Naga Babas in the Pashupatinath temple area have begun a few days before Maha Shivaratri.
For a week, baba (jogi) and saints from all over the country, including India, have flocked to Pashupatinath to pay their respects to Lord Shiva. In Hinduism, the Maha Shivaratri festival is very important. This year’s Maha Shivaratri falls on March 1.
According to mythology, Lord Shiva first appeared in the form of Shivalinga on the day of Maha Shivaratri. It is believed that Lord Brahma and Vishnu were the first to perform this form of worship at that time.
The Guthi Sansthan has provided 33,000 kg of firewood to saints in Nirmal, Bhashmeshwor, Ram Temple, Shree Gorakhnath (Mrigasthali), Annapurna, and other Pashupatinath areas this year to light the fire for babas. Similarly, firewood will be arranged in the main temple premises of Pashupatinath for Naga Baba.
