Barcelona in last 16 of the Europa League
KATHMANDU: FEB. 25 – Spanish club Barcelona has entered the pre-quarterfinals of the Europa League. After being knocked out of the Champions League group stage, Barcelona were pushed into the Europa League, beating Italian club Napoli 4-2 in the second leg on Thursday night to win 5-3 overall.
In the first leg, Barcelona drew 1-1 and in the second leg, Barcelona gave an impressive performance. Jodi Alba scored the first goal for Barcelona in the 8th minute to give the team the lead. The second goal of the game was scored by Frenkie de Jong. He doubled the lead in the 13th minute.
Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne made it 2-1 on penalties as he tried to get back into the game against Barcelona. But Gerard Pique scored the third goal for the team as they took a wide lead in the first half.
The fourth goal for Barcelona, which took a 3-1 lead in the first half, was scored by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Matteo Politano scored in the last minute but could not stop the team from losing.
Before the game, both the teams displayed a banner saying ‘Stop War’.
The players have been displaying banners urging Russia to end the war since Russia launched its offensive in Ukraine on Wednesday.
