Parliament meeting today, agenda for discussion on MCC
KATHMANDU: FEB. 25 – Today’s House of Representatives meeting is taking place. Speaker Agni Sapkota, at the request of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, adjourned the meeting that was scheduled to take place yesterday. Following that, the House of Representatives will convene today at 1 p.m.
The meeting has proposed an agenda for a general discussion of the proposal. A proposal for general discussion on MCC will be submitted, according to the possible agenda published by the Parliament Secretariat. The MCC will be discussed as soon as possible. At Sunday’s meeting, the MCC was tabled.
Dr. Rojnath Pandey, a spokesperson for the Parliament Secretariat, stated that parliamentarians who wish to participate in the discussion will write their names after the proposal is submitted for theoretical discussion.
After they have given their views within the stipulated time, the concerned minister will respond to the queries raised during the discussion. Discussions on the MCC may be prolonged as the MP will speak before the decision is presented.
At present, there are 271 members in the House of Representatives. There are 98 MPs from UML, 61 from Congress, 49 from UCPN (Maoist) including Speaker, 23 from UCPN (Maoist), 19 from JSP, 13 from LOSAPA and one each from RPP, Janamorcha, Nepal Workers and Peasants and Swatantra.
If the MCC decision is tabled in Parliament without a consensus between the parties, there is a possibility of a split vote on the proposal. If 10 percent or 28 MPs demand, the Speaker can take the proposal to the written vote division.
