One million people to visit Pashupatinath on Maha Shivaratri

KATHMANDU: FEB. 22 – Prem Ale, Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, has stated that the hospice built with Indian assistance will be returned soon.

He stated at a press conference held by the Pashupati Area Development Fund in Kathmandu on Tuesday about the preparations for the Maha Shivaratri festival 2078 BS that the hospice would be reopened soon because the court had cleared the way.

Minister Ale clarified that the hospice, built at a cost of Rs 250 million by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was sold by representatives of the past. He claimed that if the hospice had been built, Indian saints and the elderly would have been able to stay there, but that this has not occurred. He directed to make necessary preparations to make this year’s Maha Shivaratri grand and civilized.

At the press conference, Member Secretary of the Fund, Dr. Milan Kumar Thapa, said that it is estimated that around one million people will visit Pashupatinath on Maha Shivaratri this year and it is estimated to cost Rs. 1.15 crore. He also stated that 10,000 security personnel would be deployed for security.

According to the fund, special measures will be taken against drugs, including marijuana, on Maha Shivaratri, and there will be no disruption in the operation of electric cremation and the Kiriyaputri area on the same day.

The fund stated that a 251-member main function committee and ten different sub-committees have been formed to complete the Maha Shivaratri festival.
