Nepal’s wide victory over Philippines

KATHMANDU: FEB. 20 – Nepal has won for the second time in a row in the T20 World Cup qualifiers. Nepal defeated the Philippines by 136 runs in the match played on Saturday. Chasing the target of 219 runs, the Philippines managed to score only 82 runs in 20 overs.

Sandeep Lamichhane took 3 wickets to wrap up the Philippines cheaply. Similarly, Dipendra Singh Airee, Kushal Malla, Gulsan Jha, Jitendra Mukhiya and Abinash Bohara took one wicket each. Sandeep took 3 wickets for 9 runs in 4 overs. Jordan Allegra of the Philippines scored 27 not out, Daniel Smith 20 and captain Jonathan Hill scored 11 runs and no other batsmen were able to add double figures.

With the win, Nepal is at the top with 4 points from 2 games. Canada has 2 points from 2 games. Nepal, which is looking for a wide victory, has benefited from this victory.

Batting first after losing the toss in Oman, Nepal scored 218 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee scored 83 runs and Kushal Bhurtel batted for 104 runs. Despite losing Aashf Sheikh and Kushal Malla, Kushal Bhurtel and Airee set a new record and led Nepal to a higher total.

Kaushal and Dipendra combined for 171 runs. Which is Nepal’s highest run partnership in T20. Previously, Paras Khadka and Aarif Sheikh had combined for 145 runs.

Kushal recorded his first career century. In addition, he became the third Nepali to score a T20 century. Bhurtel scored his first T20 century with 13 fours and one six off 57 deliveries. Former captains Paras Khadka and Gyanendra Malla previously accomplished this achievement.

Nepal now has to play with Canada. The match between Nepal and Canada is set to take place on Monday.
