MCC to prepare for table, ‘High Alert’ in Kathmandu
KATHMANDU: FEB. 18 – Security in Kathmandu has been beefed up as the US Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) prepares to table its report in Parliament today.
Bishnu Kumar KC, the Central Spokesperson of Nepal Police, informed Makalu Khabar that security had been tightened due to anti-MCC activities.
“The situation remains peaceful,” he stated. There hasn’t been a single arrest. But we are alert to potential security threats. Police have been mobilized. We have increased patrols.’
He also stated that no official information about any demonstrations or other programs planned for today has been received.
He stated that the suspicious item found in Kalanki this morning was a packet of salt and an empty cooker and urged people not to panic as a result of the confusion.
