Parliament meeting today, will MCC be tabled?
KATHMANDU: FEB. 16 – The House of Representatives is meeting today. The meeting was set for 1 p.m.
The meeting’s agenda has also been made public, but the proposal related to the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is not on the possible agenda made public by the Secretariat of the Federal Parliament. The only thing on the agenda is to submit a condolence motion.
The government is preparing to table the most discussed and contentious MCC. The agenda of the House of Representatives may be changed as a result of a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee convened by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota prior to the Parliament’s sitting.
On Tuesday, the Congress parliamentary party decided to hold an MCC table. Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Prime Minister and President of the Nepali Congress had asked the Speaker to set up an MCC table. The speaker, according to Congress, is supportive of this issue.
The ruling CPN-Maoist Center and Unified Socialist Party are not openly in favor of MCC. The opposition party UML has stated that it will make appropriate decisions once the ruling party’s position is made public.
