Writ against controversial Karnali minister Lama, Demand for dismissal of Minister
Surkhet. A writ petition has been filed against Karnali Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment Minister Chiring Damdol Lama, also known as Karchen Lama.
On Monday, a writ petition was filed in the Surkhet High Court alleging that a person convicted in a criminal case had been appointed as a minister.
The state chief’s office, the Karnali government, and Minister Lama have been designated as the opposition in the writ petition. Binita Bogati, a law student at Midwestern University, has filed a writ petition demanding that his ministerial position be removed.
Karchen, a CPN-Maoist leader from Humla, was sentenced to two years in prison and an Rs. 5000 fine by a court on 2051 Mangsir 25 (11 December 1994).
According to the writ petition, Karchen was appointed as a minister in violation of the constitution. It has also demanded that the cabinet be made inclusive.
