Bar welcomed the impeachment against CJ Rana
KATHMANDU: FEB. 13 – The Nepal Bar Association welcomed the decision to file an impeachment motion against Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana.
During the agitation on Sunday demanding the Chief Justice’s resignation, Bar Chairperson Chandeshwar Shrestha welcomed the impeachment motion filed for the Chief Justice’s removal and claimed that it would be successful.
He advised not only the Chief Justice but also other judges, to improve their performance by ceasing to use intermediaries.
Other issues, he said, could be improved if the judiciary was reformed. Shrestha stated that the agitation was not for the benefit of the general public, but for the improvement of the entire judiciary.
Similarly, Supreme Court Chairperson Purnaman Shakya stated that an impeachment motion was filed, and the Chief Justice was barred from sitting in the Supreme Court and became the suspended Chief Justice.
He stated unequivocally that the agitation would continue until a new chief justice was sworn in.
Earlier on Sunday, a fight broke out between police and lawyers protesting on the grounds of the Supreme Court. Since Sunday, the bar has resumed its physical presence program.
