KATHMANDU: FEB. 11 – Former Minister Hridayesh Tripathi and incumbent RPP Chairperson Kamal Thapa, who contested the last election of the House of Representatives in 2074 BS with the symbol of CPN-UML, are preparing to register a new party.

Following the announcement of the local level election, the leaders approached the Election Commission to see if the party could be registered. Tripathi and Thapa are busy preparing for the registration of a new party after the commission responded that there were no restrictions on party registration. They are both preparing to register for different party.

Thapa, who announced his resignation from the party at a press conference in his home district of Hetauda on Tuesday, has made final preparations to form a new party. On Thursday, the Thapa group met in the capital and decided to form a new political party.

Rajaram Bartaula, a close leader, informed Thapa that it was his responsibility to register the party as soon as possible. Leader Thapa has been tasked with registering the party, with Hindutva, good governance, and prosperity as the primary goals. The Thapa group has begun planning to register the party in the first week of March.

During the meeting, Thapa requested that the name of the party and the election symbol be proposed. The party will be led by Kamal Thapa, with Uddhav Poudel, Sushil Shrestha, Chandra Bahadur Gurung, and Bartaula in the office at the beginning.

Tripathi’s party preparing for registration

Hridayesh Tripathi, who announced the formation of Pragatisheel Janta party (People’s Progressive Party) on December 14, is also preparing to register the party. It was said that the new party was not formed due to the lack of party in the country but the ideological debate was almost zero.

He said, “In the current situation and the three organs of the state, the legislature, the executive and the judiciary are ineffective and stagnant, the implementation of the constitution seems to be hampered and the politics of the country seems to be slipping away. We have a lot of respect for other parties. ‘

What does the Election Commission say?

Tripathi had reached the Election Commission on Tuesday and held consultations on party registration. Now that the date of local elections has been announced, the question has arisen as to whether it is possible to register a new party and participate in the election.

The Election Commission registers parties in accordance with Article 269 of the Constitution. According to Article 271, the party remaining in the list of the Commission after such registration has to be re-registered with the Commission for election purposes.

With the date of local elections already announced, the commission is now preparing to publish the information calling for party registration as per Article 271. There are 105 parties registered in the commission so far.

Spokesperson of the Election Commission Shaligram Sharma Poudel said, “It cannot be said that the Commission will not register a party at any time. This is the regular work of the Commission.” If taken, they can register for the election again and participate in the local elections.
