National Democracy Day: Preparations for publicity

KATHMANDU: FEB. 9 – A decision has been made to complete all the preparations for publicity in connection with celebrating the upcoming 72nd National Democracy Day.

A meeting chaired by Dr Baikuntha Aryal, Secretary at the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology and Convenor of the Democracy Day Publicity Sub-committee, made this decision today. The meeting decided to mark the Day by organizing various programmes in the media.

It is decided that illumination would be carried out at homes, offices and Mandala, the national flag would be flown at homes and awareness-raising songs broadcast through the electronic media.

The National Democracy Day is celebrated on Falgun 7 (Feb 19) each year commemorating the day in 2007 BS on which then king Tribhuvan declared establishment of democracy in the country and the liberation of the people from the yoke of family rule of the Ranas.

Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the National News Agency, will produce materials related to the Democracy Day and provide these to other media on the occasion. The electronic media will host special talk show and panel discussion on topics concerning the Democracy Day while the print media or the national level newspapers will publish special pull-outs, publications or collection of articles.

Telecommunication service providing agencies including Nepal Telecom will send Democracy Day best wishes through SMS while Nepal Television, Radio Nepal and other community and private media will also broadcast programmes on the importance of the democracy Day.

Media, including Radio Nepal and television will make arrangements for live telecast of the National Democracy Day Main Programme.

Ministry joint-secretary, Director General of the Department of Information, Chairpersons of Gorakhapatra Corporation and Nepal Television, General Manager of RSS, Director General of Radio Nepal, Managing Director of Nepal Telecom and Director of Nepal Telecommunication Authority, among other officials were present in the meeting.
