Outside Parliament, parties protest against MCC
KATHMANDU: FEB. 9 – Outside the parliament, political parties in Kathmandu have protested the MCC agreement.
On Wednesday, the United People’s Movement, an alliance of political parties, organizations, and campaigns outside the parliament, marched from Maitighar in Kathmandu to Baneshwor in protest of the MCC.
They claimed that the MCC agreement should be scrapped because it appears to be above Nepal law. They spoke in support of the US Alliance, but stressed the importance of maintaining some independence for the US.
Demonstrators chanted slogans such as “Reject MCC agreement, go back MCC, stop foreign intervention.” Various organizations including CPN (ML), CPN (United), Communist Party of Nepal, United National People’s Movement Front and others have jointly protested.
Even political parties have been unable to reach an agreement on whether or not to pass the MCC.
