Motion of impeachment may be registered against Speaker: Mahesh Basnet

KATHMANDU: FEB. 8 – CPN (UML) Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has remarked that an impeachment motion against Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota may also be registered.

Speaking in an interview organized by Reporters Club Nepal, Basnet said impeachment might be brought if the speaker did not amend his steps.

Basnet further said that 100 MPs were ready to sign the speaker’s impeachment move at any time. According to Basnet, the speaker should be allowed to act as a guardian in the house. He further added that due to widespread pressure, the government has set the date for local elections in Baisakh (May/June).

Basnet stressed that the UML will make its decision on the MCC only after consulting with the ruling party and the government.
