Leftist parties to intensify agitation against MCC

KATHMANDU: FEB. 7 – Smaller leftist groups have called for a nationwide protest against the Millennium Challenge Corporation MCC starting tomorrow. They announced a nationwide agitation against the MCC in a statement issued on Sunday.

“We urge on the patriotic masses to create a strong movement to the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led coalition government’s attempt to ratify the treacherous MCC agreement in parliament as a ruthless attack on Nepal’s national independence and audacity,” the statement said.

Among the leftist parties declaring the movement are Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, Mohan Bikram Singh-led Communist Party of Nepal (Masal), Mohan Baidya-led Communist Party of Nepal (Revolutionary Maoist), Rishi Kattel-led Communist Party of Nepal, Ahuti-led Scientific Socialist Communist Party of Nepal, CPN-Maoist Central Socialist-led by Karnajit Budhathoki.

Similarly, the Patriotic People’s Democratic Front led by CP Gajurel, Nepal and Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal led by Chitra Bahadur KC are also expected to join the movement.

The movement’s agenda includes a national joint corner meeting on Feb 8, a demonstration in front of the parliament building on Feb 9 with a march from Maitighar in Kathmandu Valley, and coordinated protests and rallies at district headquarters across the country.
