KATHMANDU: FEB. 7 – Sher Bahadur Deuba, the Prime Minister, has called a meeting of the Council of Ministers. Following 3 p.m., the Council of Ministers will meet at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting will, according to Baluwatar sources, set the date for local elections. After the UML requested the three parties to hold local elections on time, the government is prepared to announce the date.

The date of the election had been set for May 18 by the Election Commission. The commission’s planned date for holding the election on May 18 is being announced, according to a source.

According to sources, Prime Minister Deuba convened the cabinet meeting despite the opposition of CPN-Maoist Central Committee Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN-Unified Socialist Chairperson Madhav Kumar Nepal.

According to reports, the meeting will also address the MCC issue as well as the date of local elections.
