KATHMANDU: FEB. 6 – Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPN (Maoist) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ have received a letter from the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

Deuba and Prachanda had received a letter from the MCC replying to a five-month-old letter. On Feb 3 (last Thursday), Acting Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Bahl responded to Prime Minister Deuba and Prachanda in a letter.

The letter was written on behalf of the MCC and sent to Nepal on Sept 29, 2021, as the five-month deadline approached. The United States has set a February 28 deadline for parliament to pass the MCC in the letter.

The letter stated that Nepal had the sovereign right to refuse MCC assistance and that the board had the authority to revoke the $500 million grant if the MCC was not passed by parliament.
