Malaysia reports 5,720 new COVID-19 infections, total deaths hit 32,000

KUALA LUMPUR: FEB. 4 – Malaysia reported 5,720 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Thursday, bringing the total tally to 2,887,780.

Of the new infections, 130 are imported cases and 5,590 are local transmissions, showed data released on the health ministry’s website.

A further eight deaths have been reported from the pandemic, bringing the overall death toll to 32,000.

The ministry also reported 3,968 new recoveries from COVID-19, bringing the total number of people cured and discharged to 2,794,354 in the Southeast Asian country.

Currently, there are 61,426 active cases recorded in Malaysia, 114 of them held in intensive care and 56 in need of assisted breathing.

The country reported that 100,810 vaccine doses were administered on Thursday and that 79.8 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 78.7 percent are fully vaccinated and 37.2 percent have received boosters.
