Baitadi air service closed for months
BAITIDI: FEB. 3 – For the past month, the Baitadi air service has been closed. On Dec 31, the Baitadi-Dhangadhi flight was closed. Summit Air operated a weekly flight from Baitadi to Dhangadhi on Friday.
Regular flights are currently suspended due to a lack of passengers, according to Deepak Bhatta, a senior officer at Patan’s Civil Aviation Office.
He said, “It has not been possible to fly regularly due to lack of passengers. It has been seen that passengers have not been able to fly due to bad weather.”
As the weather improves, regular flights will be resumed in a few days. Even for the 18-passenger Summit Air flight, the difficulty has arisen due to a lack of passengers. “, he explained “Only 5/7 persons look for air travel on a daily basis. After reaching 14/15 people, the flight can be resumed.”
The construction of the Patan airport began from 2032 BS, and aviation service began in 2035 BS. Since 2052 BS, the airport has been closed. The airport was closed at the time due to a lack of road network in the hilly district. The airport tower was set on fire and destroyed by rebel Maoists in 2058 BS.
