Local level elections to be held in first week of Jestha: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU: FEB. 1 – The local level election would be placed in the first week of Jestha, 2079 BS, according to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Prime Minister Deuba said in a meeting with Nepali Congress officials in Bagmati State that plans are being made to hold elections in the first week of Jestha without amending the constitution or laws.

According to Mohan Bahadur Basnet, vice-president of the NC Bagmati State, Deuba stated that the local level election will be held before the term of the local level people’s representatives expires on Jestha 5 (May 19).

The Prime Minister stated that preparations are being made to hold the local elections in the first phase on May 19 without amending the law because it is a hassle to amend the law.

Similarly, state president Indra Baniya said that Prime Minister Deuba had instructed him to get involved in the preparations for the local elections that would be held in the first week of Jestha.

According to Baniya, Prime Minister Deuba has said that the election will be held on May 18. According to Baniya, Prime Minister Deuba informed that the second phase of the election would be held on May 21 if the first phase could not be held on May 18.
