LAMJUNG: JAN. 30 – A ‘Dr Harka Gurung Park’ is to be constructed in Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-7, the birthplace of geographer late Harka Gurung. For this, Lhenge Tamu Samaj the UK has donated Rs. 800,000 to Dr Harka Gurung Foundation.

The founding chairperson of the Samaj Major Khusiman Gurung and his wife Manju handed over the amount to the ward chair of Marsyangdi-7 Yuva Ghale on Saturday. The then Constituent Assembly member and patron of the park, Jamindra Man Ghale, urged everyone to help in the construction of the park.

Chair of the foundation Til Bahadur Gurung said that it is estimated to cost around Rs. 6 million for the construction of other structures along with the park. The foundation has stated that it will build structures and gardens including libraries, statues, museums, exhibition halls, meeting halls, flower gardens and traditional Gurung houses.

Dr Gurung was born on Poush 29, 1995 BS in Tanglichowk, Marsyangdi-7. Twenty-four people, including Dr Gurung, were killed in a helicopter crash on Ashoj 7, 2063 while returning from a program to hand over the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Project to the local community organized by the World Wildlife Fund Nepal.
