Booster dose for senior citizens

KATHMANDU: JAN. 30 – The government has begun administering a ‘booster’ dose of COVID-19 to seniors over the age of 60. A booster dosage was provided to senior citizens over the age of 60 who had completed 6 months of vaccination.

On Friday, a ministerial meeting convened by Health Minister Birodh Khatiwada addressed letters for vaccination to the District Health Offices of 77 districts.

On Jan 21, the ministry began administering booster doses to senior citizens in accordance with WHO’s Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization and the National Vaccine Advisory Committee’s recommendations.

The Ministry has written a letter to give Covishield or AstraZeneca vaccine in booster dose to those who have received Covishield, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Pfizer or Vero Cell under the first and second doses.

It has also been requested that the Covishield, AstraZeneca vaccination be provided as a second dosage for people who have already received the first dose of Covishield, AstraZeneca, Vero Cell, Moderna, and Pfizer vaccines while abroad.

In the first phase, starting on January 16, the ministry gave booster doses to front-line workers. A booster dose has been administered to 299,000 people thus far.
