KATHMANDU: JAN. 27 – Martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema has been remembered today on the fourth day of the Martyr’s Week that commenced on Jan 24. The statue of Mathema at local Sifal was garlanded on the occasion.

Martyr Mathema was remembered by offering bouquet at the statue at Sifal, where Mathema got martyrdom for democracy.

On the occasion, KMC Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya, Chief Administrative Officer Loknath Poudyal, among others, offered bouquet at the statute.

The Martyr’s Week programme is being marked in the presence of limited people this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Born on Asoj 1, 1966 BS at Ombahal in Kathmandu, Mathema was hanged to death by the then Rana regime at Sifal of Kathmandu on Magh 13, 1997BS for launching activities against the then Ran rulers.

The KMC has been constructing ‘Dharma Bhakta Mahanagar Manab Sewa Ashram’ at Bageshwori temple premises at Nagarjun municipality-6 in honour of martyr Mathema.

Nagarjun municipality is providing around 18 ropanis of land for the same.
