Voting for NA election begins, results today
KATHMANDU: JAN. 26 – The election for the National Assembly has begun. Voting in Far Western, Lumbini, Madhesh, and State 1 has started.
In State 1, voters can cast votes at the Crop Protection Laboratory and the State Election Office. The State Election Office and the State Parliament’s Guardian Laboratory were used as polling stations at the local level. Ministers have already voted, including Chief Minister of State 1 Rajendra Kumar Rai.
At the State Assembly premises in Dhangadhi, the state’s temporary seat, voting for three vacant National Assembly members in the Far West has started. Members of the State Assembly voted at polling station ‘A,’ whereas local level chiefs, deputy chiefs, chairpersons, and vice-chairpersons voted at polling station ‘B,’ according to the Office of the Returning Officer.
Voting is also underway in Madhesh and Lumbini States. Two polling stations have been set up in State 1 and two polling stations have been set up in six other states by the Election Commission. Two-colour ballots have been provided for the election of National Assembly members. The chief deputy chief will vote on the red ballot, while state assembly members will vote on the green ballot. According to the Election Commission, the election results would be announced by tonight.
Elections for the vacant seats will be held on March 4 as the term of eight members of the CPN-UML, four members of the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, four members of the CPN-Maoist Center and three members of the Nepali Congress will expire.
There is a provision that the election be held 35 days prior to the expiration of the member’s term. There are 43 candidates running to represent the federal parliament, representing nine political parties.
